Education

I have an MA in English from Morehead State University; I am finishing my current Master of Education degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with the College of William and Mary in Virginia. I am a member of the honor society Chi Sigma Iota, the American Counseling Association, and the Houston LPCA. This year, it has also been an honor to serve as a Diversity and Inclusion Research Fellow with distinguished professors at the College of William and Mary.

Experience

After over 10 years of teaching in higher education, I realized that I was intrigued by my students’ lives and their struggles. They were more than willing to talk about them when I listened without judgment and with compassion. Later, I worked in the non-profit world, helping underrepresented emerging adults get their GED. During my time there, I experienced the trauma and pain these young adults were still working through, and I knew I needed more skills and professional development to be able to help them remove the barriers to their pathways to becoming. I went back to school and now I am here to help you. Be seen. Feel heard. You matter. There is only one of you in the world. Only you can give voice to your story.

My Philosophy

Perhaps you are someone who is going through a significant life transition. Maybe you are navigating overwhelming stress, feeling depressed, or feeling anxious. If you feel the need to unload your thoughts and feelings, I am here for you. I am a person-centered, helping professional, ready to give you space to tell your story, listen, and care. My purpose is to open minds through imparting knowledge, helping you tell your story, and creating a space where compassion and equity thrive.

I like to remind myself every day, in the words of Albert Einstein, that “There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

Therapy with Me

With a strong emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion, I have a heart for the LGBTQ+ community, for emerging adults, and for all kinds of families, however, you define it. If you consider yourself a part of those communities, you will find a safe space and a warm welcome with me. We are all suffering. You are not alone. You can find a way through the pain. Come as you are.

Personal

I provide counseling services to individuals, families, and groups. I am drawn to solution-focused, strengths-based talk therapies that will help you get unstuck and embrace the inevitable uncertainty of groundlessness. We put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect, and sometimes it feels like nothing we do is good enough. I am here to help you embrace good enough, and move from just being to becoming. By incorporating mindfulness practices into every session, and collaborating with you to figure out what the best means of navigating your life story is, I will empower you to give voice to your story. You know what’s best for you, but sometimes it takes talking to someone to figure that out.

While I wait to hear your story, here’s a little about mine. My wife and I moved our family from Georgia to Houston six years ago for a fresh start. We love it here. Every weekend is full of activity. We love to go camping, rock climbing, zip-lining, and bike riding. But we also like to spend evenings at the movies, relax at the beach, or walk in the park with our daughter and our six dogs. Whatever we do, we try to experience it fully and live life in wonder.
