Education

I received my Master of Science degree in Counseling from the University of Houston – Clear Lake. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in the state of Texas.

Experience

I have had the privilege of working in the social services field for the majority of my career. I have worked with various private and government agencies that serve clients from all walks of life.  My experience has also afforded me the opportunity to serve people of all age groups.

Before becoming a part of the team at West Lake Houston Counseling, I gained my experience as a therapist working with families who experienced various forms of trauma including domestic violence and child abuse. I also have experience working with clients who are victims of sexual crimes and the subsequent trauma response that follows.  My clinical experience also includes serving individuals with mental health concerns, grief, individuals struggling through various life transitions, and relationship/family issues.  Additionally, I have worked with families struggling with a child’s diagnosis of a developmental disability, behavioral concerns, and impulsive behaviors.

My Philosophy

I understand that we all struggle with various demanding aspects of life. None of us is without pain due to some aspect of human existence; be it a loss, illness, trauma, and/or conflict. Whether it comes from a professional setback, death of a loved one, rejection, financial issues, relationships issues, or some other reason. Sometimes these aspects of life feel that they outweigh the good and we need a place for relief and to find healthy ways to process and release the pain we carry with us. On the other hand, I also believe in the strength and resilience of the human spirit. It never ceases to amaze me when I see the posttraumatic growth achieved by people who are pushing to overcome difficult circumstances and move beyond their pain.

I have learned that difficulties and dark times offer an opportunity for an individual to grow and replenish. My theoretical perspectives in therapy include solution focused, strengths-based, and cognitive-behavioral approaches. This means that I will help you identify your strengths; see what solutions those strengths might foster, and identifying what thoughts and behaviors might be getting in the way of your optimal health and functioning.

Therapy with Me

I strive to provide you with a safe, non-judgmental place to vent about difficult life situations, explore options, and develop the skills to handle life’s challenges. I consider my job the utmost privilege to walk with you through difficult, dark, and trying times and witness the growth and improvement that our therapeutic relationship nurtures. I believe the therapeutic relationship should have the tenets of trust, genuineness, empathy, confidentiality, and support. Through the development of the therapeutic relationship, changes start to happen that lead to promoting healing and enhancing functioning. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families in building therapeutic alliances. My specialties include treatment for trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, and women’s issues.

Personal

Outside of private practice work, presently I work for a government agency as a Family Advocate serving families who are victims of crime.  When I am not at work, I am spending time with my loved ones, reading, riding my bicycle, playing board games, and undertaking various arts and crafts projects. I am also big on listening to different educational podcasts and TED talks. Also, I am a little obsessed with escape rooms, I have done several with a group of friends from graduate school and we escaped all but one so far!
