Who We Are

West Lake Houston Counseling is a Black-owned/Black-operated office-based psychotherapy practice dedicated to providing clients with “Therapy for Sustainable Change.” We are looking for a fully licensed, part-time psychotherapist to join our team. West Lake Houston Counseling is located in the heart of Humble, TX, and is easily accessible from the North Houston, Atascocita, and Kingwood areas.

What We Do

West Lake Houston Counseling primarily serves clients from diverse backgrounds and traditionally marginalized populations. These populations include women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community. We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic therapist with a clinical specialty in serving traditionally marginalized populations and who is extensively trained in multicultural diversity as reflected by their previous clinical experience.

The Intern’s Role

As an intern therapist on our team, you will be responsible for conducting psychosocial assessments, formulating treatment plans, providing diagnoses, and utilizing clinical interventions from outcomes-based theoretical orientations of your choice. Your role will be to support the desired outcomes established collaboratively with your clients. Coordination of care (as needed) is also included in the role for the purposes of communicating with prescribing professionals along with timely documentation requirements. You will have the opportunity to work with our supervision partner, Nashema Hatten, LPC-S who will provide supervisory oversight and guidance throughout your experience. Please note that all therapeutic services are offered to our clients via our telehealth platform.*

Intern Requirements

  • Current state of Texas provisional license as a LPC intern*
  • Clinical experience with (or interest in working with) diverse and/or marginalized populations
  • Possession of strong computer skills including use of internet and video software required; must be comfortable working remotely via Telehealth on a set schedule (which you will choose), and be able to offer a confidential, professional, polished presentation for your clients (setup, lighting, etc.)
  • Commitment to providing a minimum of 10 hours of psychotherapy per week with flexibility to work two evenings per week or 2 Saturdays per month required
  • Ability to commit to a once monthly team meeting with Clinical Director

Based on the interview outcome, the candidate will then interview [virtually] with our supervising partner, Nashema Hatten. Please be prepared to provide at least two references who can attest to your fit for the position. We require that at least one reference be a present/past employer, supervisor, or instructor who can evaluate your direct care/clinical experience or academic accomplishments.
